Thiruvarur alone is down 66,477 acres and Nagapattinam has crashed 93%, while Cuddalore is up 99%. Mettur stood at 73.82 feet with 36.072 tmc on 31 July, against 120 feet last year. The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee has ordered Karnataka to release 3,500 cusecs a day for 15 days, yielding about 4 tmc. That water will not revive land already left fallow, but it can protect standing crops and the coming samba season.
