Tamil Nadu's new investment proposals fall 74.5% in Q1 and the state slips to 17th

In Q1 of 2026-27, Tamil Nadu drew only ₹11,237 crore in proposed new investment projects - a 74.5% drop from the previous quarter. The state slipped from 6th to 17th in the national investment ranking. Private proposals fell from ₹31,935 crore to ₹7,143 crore (77.63%), and foreign private proposals dropped from ₹2,080 crore to ₹720 crore. In the same period, Karnataka, West Bengal and Kerala logged higher proposal values.
