CM Vijay has asked the court to lift the stay on notifying by-elections for five seats including Tiruchi East. The affidavit says the MLA resigned on 10 May, while the election case was filed only on 17 June. It argues the petitioner is neither the election petitioner nor a voter in the constituency. People in the seats are without an MLA; the Election Commission should notify the by-polls, and the case should be dismissed with costs, the reply says.
